When you have opened the app you can see several icons: The current battery level, the time, as well as the available memory. The most important symbols for recording a panorama are:
If possible, you should record with the highest quality. Although this is usually preset, but it should be checked again for safety. For this go to Settings → Photo Settings .... Here you will find both the camera resolution and the picture quality. Both should be set to the highest level.
To start recording, make sure the flash is turned off and HDR is turned on. You can access the settings via the photo mode icon .
We recommend to determine the exposure average for a panorama first and then to lock it for all frames to ensure consistent exposure. For this purpose, the smartphone with the exposure lock open is directed to an area that has the optimum exposure for the panorama - not too dark and not too bright. Once the right exposure has been found lock it.
When leaving the app, the automatic exposure is released again. In addition, make sure to adjust the exposure for the next panorama again, before you start recording.
For the best quality, more contrast and processing control over the images, we recommend creating individual HDR images using Exposure Bracketing. This means that you create an exposure series consisting of three or more shots and save separately. Use an HDR program for assembling.
To take the exposure bracketing you should set the exposure difference on 3 under Settings → Photo Settings ... → Exposure Bracketing Stops. Since "only" 3 photos per exposure bracketing are taken with Open Camera, you should also set the distance as high as possible to cover a wide exposure spectrum.
As with automatic HDR, the exposure average should be calculated and set for each panorama beforehand to ensure consistent exposure. For this purpose, the smartphone with the exposure lock open is directed to an area that has the optimum exposure for the panorama - not too dark and not too bright. Once the exposure has been found, the exposure is set using the lock symbol.
Every time you exit the app, the automatic exposure is released again. In addition, you should make sure to adjust the exposure for the next panorama again, before you start recording.
In order to produce a well-composed HDR, an additional HDR program is recommended. Although some stitching programs also offer the merging of an HDR, the possibilities are usually limited. We use the program Photomatix for our bracketing series.
To avoid blurry shots, it is essential to use a remote control (such as a headset with volume control as the trigger). Alternatively, the app offers an audio control option.
These can be found under Settings → More camera settings → Audio control option.
Make sure that you also activate the function in the recording mode.
For a better overview, it is advisable to store the individual images in folders.
his can be found under Einstellung → More camera settings ... → Storage location..
With the spirit level feature you can balance your smartphone.
The feature can be activated under Settings → User Interface ... → Horizontal Line and Tilt Line.
